About the Opportunity
NLG is currently seeking a Fisheries and Wildlife Manager based in New Aiyansh, BC, on a full-time basis.
Reporting to the Director of Fisheries and Wildlife, you will oversee research projects, provide technical resource, liaise with external stakeholders, and manage a small team of full time and seasonal contract hires year round. Specifically, the scope of your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Management of Applied Research on Fisheries and Wildlife Programs:
- Ensuring data is obtained, analyzed, and verified using appropriate methodologies for scientific studies
- Preparing scientific and financial reports
- Facilitating full time and seasonal hiring of staff
- Delegating research tasks to the team as needed
- Developing improved processes in policies and procedures
- Identifying growth prospects and providing creative solutions to implement strategies
Management of Other Funded Programs:
- Supervising project inception and implementation per contract and budget terms
- Allocating funds, purchasing, and issuing invoices for program materials
- Providing status and completion reports to the Director of Fisheries and Wildlife
- Keeping complete and accurate project/department files
- Writing grant proposals to foundations program funding
Management of Fish Sale Operations:
- Ensuring upkeep of fish processing facility per Ministry of Agriculture standards
- Arranging for annual inspection of facility
- Overseeing permits and annual reports
- Seeking out markets and contracting fish buyers
- Facilitating full time and seasonal hiring of staff (supervisor, fish handlers, graders, labourers, etc)
- Working with finance department to facilitate payments and invoicing
- Ensuring accurate tracking of inventory in the supply chain
