SUPERVISOR: Delegated Team Lead

HOURS: 35 hours per week | TERM: Full Time – Permanent | LOCATIONS: Terrace, BC

JOB SUMMARY:
The Social Work Assistant (SWA) supports the Delegated Social Workers on Multidisciplinary Teams in the areas of Intake, Family Service, and Guardianship by assisting Social Workers with some of the Non-Delegated day to day casework functions and activities. The SWA coordinates and caries out administrative tasks in addition to providing direct support and assistance to children and youth in care, parents, caregivers, extended families, and Aboriginal Communities. The Delegated Social Worker and/or Team Leader retain full decision-making responsibilities for case management decisions.

DUTIES:

  • Enter and keep up to date client information into the Integrated Case Management (ICM) system and update location screens for clients in MIS;
  • Opening CS and FS files as required and closing incidents and associating incidents and memos to cases;
  • Load social worker notes into ICM and filing of documents into FS and CS files;
  • Carry out Court disclosures for Director’s counsel and preparing, registering and serving court documents;
  • Keep financial records of family support monies and prepare POs and financial request for social workers as related to casework;
  • Complete Prior Contact Check reviews and Initial Record Reviews on all new incidents and memos;
  • Complete referral forms at the request of social workers to support services as identified by social workers;
  • Take phone calls from clients when social workers are in the field and other duties as required.


EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of grade 12 education with preferences of a Post-secondary education in the related field with at least one (1) year completed towards a degree such as child and youth care, or related Human Service equivalent; or equivalent combinations of post-secondary education and directly related experience;
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a children and youth environment in a directly related field; or equivalent combinations of post-secondary education and directly related experience.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) and other relevant Legislation;
  • Knowledge of Nisga’a cultural practices, values and beliefs and a demonstrated ability to work respectfully with Nisga’a children, families, and communities in a culturally sensitive manner;
  • Clear understanding of risk and protective factors and relevant theories, principles, techniques and practice approaches related to working with Aboriginal children, families, and communities;
  • Demonstrated abilities and experience in: developing strong working relationships with children, families, Aboriginal communities, foster parents, biological parents, and employees; developing contractual arrangements and plans with clients, caregivers, and other professionals; balancing competing priorities; working under pressure; writing concise reports to various audiences;
  • Professional commitment, flexibility, good problem solving and dispute resolution skills;
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written as well as time management and organizational skills;
  • Computer literacy on databases, Microsoft Word, Excel and other computer software and a strong working knowledge of Provincial management systems, of MIS and ICM.


OTHER:

The successful candidate will be required to have/complete/provide:

  1. A valid BC Drivers’ license with current drivers’ abstract or able to obtain N designation within a year if no Driver’s license.
  2. Three recent work related references;
  3. The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal records check;
