On March 27, 2024, Nisg̱a’a Government approved a 2nd disbursement of a $2,500 gift distribution to registered Nisg̱a’a Citizens living in Canada. As part of this process, a motion was passed directing Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government Executive to establish a trust to hold the $2,500 gifts for each Nisg̱a’a child until they reach the age of majority.
Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government segregated the funds required for the distribution of the second round of $2,500 gifts for Nisg̱a’a minors in the same trust fund as the first round of the $2,500 gifts. This was done to protect the funds until the beneficiaries come of age. Distributions will be made after they turn 19 to ensure that beneficiaries of this Trust have full control of their gift when they receive it. The Trustee of the fund will invest the Trust Fund in Guaranteed Investment Certificates or similar investments, and otherwise will hold the Trust Fund in cash, near cash or cash equivalents. This will ensure the gift is protected and grows in value over the time held in the Trust.
Annual distributions to approved beneficiaries will be made in January of each year, to those beneficiaries who turned 19 in the calendar year and that made application to the Citizenship Coordinator for their distribution from the Trust before December 31 of the prior year.
If a beneficiary does not apply for their amount, the amount will remain in the Trust until the beneficiary does apply. Application will be through the Nisg̱a’a Citizenship Coordinator under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer.
Yours truly,
NISG̱A’A LISIMS GOVERNMENT
